Long an international crossroad, Panama offers a wide variety of fine cuisine. Local, American, French, Asian and Spanish restaurants abound and fresh seafood is always an excellent choice. Native cooking is flavorful and spicy and local specialties include ceviche (marinated fish), empanadas (highly seasoned meat, chicken or cheese turnovers), sancocho (a hearty stew) and tamales (wraps with chopped meat and peppers).

Most restaurants are located in the business district, historic Casco Antiguo sector, Bella Vista or the Amador Causeway.
